Jamshedpur, Sept 18: The Mass Communication Department of Karim City College, Jamshedpur, on Thursday organized a workshop on “Use of Artificial Intelligence for Media Professionals”, focusing on the growing impact of AI in journalism and communication.
The session was conducted by Antara Bose, a certified trainer with Google-sponsored Data Leads, who served as the resource person. Welcoming the participants, Dr. Neha Tiwari, Head of the Mass Communication Department, said the workshop was aimed at preparing students to understand and responsibly use emerging technologies in media.

Bose highlighted the increasing role of artificial intelligence in media organizations, noting its use in fact-checking and preliminary news reporting. However, she cautioned that cross-verification remains essential to avoid misinformation and stressed the need to be aware of potential bias in AI-generated content.
The workshop also featured a practical demonstration, where students compared AI-generated images of houses in the US and India. While the American house outputs were almost identical, the Indian house results showed varied interpretations, sparking discussions on how cultural and contextual bias can influence AI systems.
Students also shared their informal interactions with ChatGPT as part of the session, making the workshop engaging and interactive.

Around 50 students from the department participated in the program. The event concluded with prize distribution for the Emoji Day poster competition. Faizan Khan won first prize, followed by Nitesh Singh in second place and Azka Ahmed in third.
