Lucknow, Sept 23: Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan was released from Sitapur Jail in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday after 23 months. Orders for his release were sent to Sitapur Jail in connection with 72 cases registered against him.
He was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court. Azam Khan’s elder son, Adib, arrived at the jail with supporters to receive him. Following completion of legal formalities, he was released, and a large number of supporters welcomed him outside the jail under heavy security.

Addressing speculation about Azam Khan joining the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), SP chief and MP Akhilesh Yadav said that Azam Khan and other socialists have long played a key role in opposing the BJP. He expressed hope that all cases against him would be resolved in the near future.

Yadav added that just as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other BJP leaders have had cases against them withdrawn, all false cases against Azam Khan will be withdrawn once an SP government comes to power.
SP MLA Shivpal Singh Yadav stated that Azam Khan had been trapped in false cases, but the court has now granted him relief.

Regarding rumors of Azam Khan joining the BSP, Shivpal Singh Yadav called them false and emphasized that the SP is providing him all possible support.
