Jharkhand HC directs state to hold JTET by March 2026, bars new teacher recruitment ads

Ranchi, Sept 25: In line with the Jharkhand High Court’s order issued on Wednesday, the State Education Secretary appeared in person before the court on Thursday.

During the hearing, the court directed the government to ensure that the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) conducts the JTET examination by March 2026.

It further instructed that the process of filling the remaining posts of assistant teachers must not begin until the JTET examination is held and its results are declared.

The court also ordered that no new recruitment advertisement for teachers in the state should be issued until the JTET exam is conducted.

At the same time, it expressed strong displeasure over the fact that no JTET examination has been held in Jharkhand for the past nine years.

The case was filed through a petition by Ritesh Mahato and 401 other applicants. The hearing was conducted in the court of Justice Anand Sen, where advocates Aparajita Bhardwaj and Kushal Kumar argued on behalf of the petitioners.
