Dhanbad, Sept 25: Brajendra Prasad Singh, senior vice-president of the All India Congress Committee and vice-president of Dhanbad district’s 20-point programme, has strongly opposed the proposal to shift the Dhanbad bus stand from Bartand to Katras, located 17 km away from the city.

Singh stated that he learned about the proposed relocation through media reports and described it as a serious concern, as it would cause significant inconvenience for daily commuters.

“The common people of the city would face immense hardship if the bus stand is moved. Our party will not allow this at any cost,” he asserted.

Highlighting safety concerns, Singh noted that Katras is far from Dhanbad railway station. “Women, children, and elderly passengers traveling by bus from different districts at night would feel unsafe reaching the city from Katras,” he said.

He urged the district administration to reconsider the plan and warned that he would raise the matter at the government level if the decision is not revised.

Singh further pointed out that the current Bartand bus stand has sufficient land to be developed as an inter-state bus terminal, enabling bus services connecting Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh for the convenience of commuters.

He added, “A delegation from our party will soon meet the district administration and the minister in Ranchi to discuss the bus stand relocation issue.”
