Jamshedpur, Oct 7: In a major breakthrough, the Seraikela-Kharsawan police seized “brown sugar” worth over Rs 40 lakhs by raiding a place at Adityapur Muslim Bustee under Adityapur thana area.

While raising the place, the police arrested three persons, including a 50-year-old man and recovered 207.91 grams of the narcotic drugs from their possession.

Those arrested were identified as Sahbaz Khan (19), a resident of Adityapur Muslim Bustee, Mohammed Samour alias Mohammed Amman (19), resident of Durg, Chhattisgarh and Rafiqul Islam (50), a resident of Golpur in West Bengal.

Revealing about the breakthrough, Seraikela-Kharsawan SP, Mukesh Lunayet said that all the three arrested persons were involved in smuggling brown sugar into Adityapur Muslim Bustee from where the drugs would be sold out various places in Jamshedpur and other adjoining towns in Seraikela-Kharsawan.

The drugs would be later sold out to the customers through drug peddlers.

“Sahbaz Khan was already wanted in three cases registered with the Adityapur thana, including one under NDPS Act. We are trying to find out the background of the two others,” said Lunayet while briefing to the media on Monday evening.

The SP pointed out that they had got a tip off about the smugglers and had set up a raiding team under the leadership of Seraikela SDPO, Samir Kumar Sabaiya to carry out the operation.
