New Delhi, Oct 13: The Supreme Court has ordered a CBI probe into the stampede that occurred during actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party TVK rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu. The order was issued on Monday by a bench comprising Justices J.K. Maheshwari and N.V. Anjaria.
The Supreme Court expressed displeasure over the Madras High Court directing an SIT investigation into the matter, even though the case was being heard by the Madurai bench.

On September 27, a stampede at Vijay’s rally in Karur tragically claimed 41 lives and injured over 100 people. Earlier, the Madras High Court had directed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident.

The bench had reserved its verdict after hearing the matter on October 10. The Supreme Court questioned the Tamil Nadu’s Stalin government, asking how permission was granted to TVK for the rally when AIADMK was denied permission in Karur citing lack of space.
