Jharkhand News: Judges conduct surprise inspection at Dhanbad jail

Dhanbad, Oct 19: In a surprise visit, Principal District and Sessions Judge-cum-DLSA Chairman Virendra Kumar Tiwari and District and Sessions Judge B. Kesh conducted an extensive inspection of the Dhanbad Divisional Jail on Sunday. The judicial officers reviewed various facilities and directed the jail administration to ensure better conditions for inmates.

Judges Review Prison Facilities and Welfare Measures

According to Sub-Judge-cum-DLSA Secretary Mayank Tushar Topno, the inspection team thoroughly reviewed the video conferencing room, women’s ward, hospital ward, medical facilities, and food arrangements inside the jail. The judges issued several instructions for immediate improvements to enhance inmate welfare.

Direct Interaction with Inmates

The team interacted with prisoners to gather feedback about their healthcare, drinking water, meals, and legal representation. The judges also examined the medical unit, kitchen, library, vocational training centre, and meditation-cum-yoga centre, ensuring that all facilities comply with the Jharkhand Jail Manual.

Directive for Improved Living Conditions

Judge Tiwari emphasised that the jail administration must ensure that all mandatory inmate facilities are properly maintained. He also highlighted the importance of legal aid access and vocational opportunities to support inmate rehabilitation.

The inspection was conducted in the presence of Jail Doctor Dr Rajeev Kumar Singh, Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADCS) Chief Kumar Vimalendu, Deputy Chief Ajay Kumar Bhatt, Assistant Counsels Shailendra Jha, Suman Pathak, Neeraj Goyal, Kanhaiya Lal Thakur, Swati Kumari, and Muskan Chopra, along with Civil Court Assistant Arun Kumar and other officials.
