Jamshedpur, October 29: Jharkhand is set to experience a major change in weather conditions as Cyclone Montha makes landfall along India’s eastern coast. The storm, which crossed the Andhra Pradesh–Odisha coastline with strong winds and heavy downpours, is now moving northwards, bringing its peripheral effects to several parts of the state.

Heavy Rainfall Predicted Across Several Districts

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated locations across north-eastern, south-western, and adjoining central parts of Jharkhand between October 29 and 31.

Districts including West Singhbhum, Simdega, Gumla, Ranchi, Lohardaga, and Bokaro are expected to experience moderate to intense rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

Yellow Alert Issued; Residents Urged to Stay Indoors

The IMD has warned of gusty winds reaching 30–40 km/h in several areas. Localised flooding, waterlogging, and tree-fall incidents are also possible, particularly in low-lying and hilly regions.

Residents have been advised to stay indoors during severe weather and to avoid venturing near rivers or reservoirs. The Ranchi Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for most districts, urging farmers to postpone harvesting and crop-drying activities for the next few days.

Cooler Weather Expected After Prolonged Dry Spell

The persistent cloud cover and rainfall are likely to bring down day temperatures, offering residents a temporary respite from the recent dry heat.

Meanwhile, disaster management authorities have been placed on high alert, with district administrations directed to prepare for emergency response operations. Officials said that continuous monitoring of river levels and rainfall intensity is underway across the state.

Cyclone Weakening, But Rain to Continue Till November 1

As Cyclone Montha gradually weakens into a deep depression while moving inland, its residual moisture is expected to influence Jharkhand’s weather until November 1. Intermittent showers and cloudy skies are likely to dominate much of the state in the coming days.
