Daltonganj, Oct 29: The administration of Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU) has decided to take strict measures against teachers and non-teaching staff who extend or expand their authorised leave without approval. According to university sources, instances of unauthorised extended leave have often gone unnoticed or unaccounted for, especially during long holiday spells.
Sources said that the practice of “extending and expanding” designated holidays — particularly around weekends and festivals — has become common among a few employees, leading to disruption in academic and administrative activities.

University to Monitor Attendance Post-Festive Break
The university, along with its postgraduate departments, constituent and affiliated colleges, and vocational and professional institutes, will reopen on October 30 following a consolidated break for Diwali and Chhath Puja.
“We expect our esteemed teachers and dedicated non-teaching staff to avoid any unauthorised leave extensions, as such actions reflect dereliction of duty and set a poor example,” said Vice-Chancellor Dr (Prof) Dinesh Kumar Singh.
He added that this malpractice would be curbed through cooperation among all employees and stricter monitoring of attendance.
“Some individuals tend to extend leave by adding Fridays and Saturdays to their official holidays, effectively turning it into a three-day paid break. This practice is forbidden and must be stopped,” the VC emphasised.
Steps Toward Administrative Efficiency
The university is also considering deploying on-job manpower through an outsourcing agency, which has recently won a legal case in the Jharkhand High Court and will continue to provide contractual staff after renewing its work agreement.
Additionally, a reception and help desk has been established at the university headquarters.
“We have opened a comfortable reception area to be managed by a lady receptionist. This desk will also serve as a help desk to address the genuine concerns of bonafide students,” Dr Singh said.
