PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, Nov 6: Jharkhand is gradually slipping into winter mode, with a perceptible nip in the air during the early morning and evening hours across most parts of the state.

IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre also declared onset of winter bin Jharkhand as the minimum temperature dropped below the standard 13 degree Celsius at several places during the past 48 hours.

The weather has begun to turn pleasantly cool as fog and mist make their presence felt at dawn, giving way to clear skies and dry conditions later in the day.

According to the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, fog or mist is likely to prevail during morning hours from November 6 to November 9, followed by mainly clear skies and dry weather throughout the day.

The pattern indicates the onset of early winter conditions, typical for November, as the retreating monsoon paves the way for cooler north-westerly winds.

While no significant synoptic system currently influences Jharkhand’s weather, an induced cyclonic circulation persists over Punjab and its neighbourhood at around 1.5 km above mean sea level. However, this system is not expected to have any major impact on the state’s weather.

Dry weather prevailed across Jharkhand during the past 24 hours, with day temperatures remaining comfortable.

The highest maximum temperature of 32.0°C was recorded at Medininagar (Daltonganj) on Wednesday, while the lowest minimum temperature of 12.5°C was noted at Bano in Simdega district, indicating a significant variation between day and night temperatures — a hallmark of the changing season.

Residents in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and several districts in southern and central Jharkhand have started experiencing cool mornings, prompting many to bring out light woollens.

Early risers reported mist-covered fields and reduced visibility during dawn, while by mid-morning, the sun reclaims the sky, ensuring pleasant conditions for outdoor activities.

Farmers have welcomed the dry spell, which is favourable for harvesting paddy and other standing crops. The absence of rain has also ensured smooth progress in post-harvest operations in rural areas.

Meteorologists suggest that temperatures are likely to dip further in the coming weeks, especially after mid-November, as cold winds from the north intensify.

With winter slowly setting in, Jharkhand’s landscape is expected to wear its seasonal charm — crisp mornings, clear blue skies, and chilly evenings that mark the state’s transition into the year’s coldest months.
