Jamshedpur, Nov 12: Jharkhand’s veteran athletes made the state proud with their best-ever performance at the 23rd Asian Masters Athletics Championships, held in Chennai from November 5 to 9, clinching a total of nine medals — 2 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze.
The event saw participation from 22 Asian countries, with India fielding a strong contingent. The Jharkhand Masters team stood out for their exceptional display of skill, grit, and consistency across multiple track and field disciplines.
In the 45+ age group, Parveen Mishra bagged a silver medal in the Hammer Throw, marking a strong start for the team.

In the 50+ category, S.K. Tomar emerged as a double medalist — winning gold in Hammer Throw and silver in Discus Throw.
The 70+ age group witnessed a stellar performance from Ashok Kumar Biswal, who secured three medals — silver in 400m, silver in 300m hurdles, and bronze in 200m.
In the 75+ category, M.L. Chatterjee added a bronze medal in the 5km walk, while B.N. Rao stole the show in the 85+ group, clinching gold in Long Jump and silver in Triple Jump, making him one of the oldest medal winner from the state.

With a total of nine medals, this marks Jharkhand’s best-ever performance at the Asian level, reinforcing the state’s growing strength in Masters Athletics.
