Jharkhand HC slams JSSC for dropping high scorers in revised results

Ranchi, Nov 20: The Jharkhand High Court strongly criticised the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) over the revised results released for the Assistant teachers  (Mathematics and Science) recruitment. The Court said the Commission must clearly explain the rule and rationale under which higher-scoring candidates were excluded, while lower-scoring candidates were kept in the revised list.

Petition Filed by Kishore Kumar and Others

The petition, filed by Advocate Chanchal Jain on behalf of Kishore Kumar and others, was heard by a single bench of Justice Ananda Sen.
During the hearing, Advocate Jain stated that the petitioners’ names were included in the preliminary results, and they were called for district-level counselling, where all candidates’ marks were shown.

High Scorers Removed, Lower Scorers Retained

However, the petitioners were later removed from the revised results, while several candidates with lower marks stayed on the list. Advocate Jain noted 15–20 instances where this happened.

He argued that the petitioners all scored higher marks within their categories, cleared the TET, and yet were excluded—raising serious doubts about the transparency of the selection process.

Based on these submissions, the Court questioned the JSSC:
“What is the basis for including those with lower marks in the revised results when higher-scoring candidates were available?”

Court Reserves Posts for Petitioners

Calling the issue “extremely serious,” the High Court issued an interim order directing that the posts be reserved for the petitioners.

The Court also instructed the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission to file a counter-affidavit explaining why higher-mark candidates were excluded from the revised result list.
