Announcing the policy update, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the much-awaited provision has finally been approved, addressing two long-standing demands of the farming community.

In a message shared with cultivators, Chouhan explained that until now, losses resulting from animal intrusion or flooding due to excessive rainfall were not included in the crop insurance scheme. “If wild animals destroy a farmer’s standing crop, the farmer will now be eligible for compensation. Similarly, if heavy rainfall leads to waterlogging and damages fields, that too will be covered,” the minister assured.
