Ranchi, Dec. 18: Justice M.S. Sonak has been recommended as the new Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court by the Supreme Court Collegium. The decision was taken at the Collegium meeting held on Thursday. His appointment will come into effect after the retirement of the current Chief Justice on January 8, 2026.
Justice Sonak is presently serving as a judge of the Bombay High Court and is among several judges recommended for Chief Justice posts in different High Courts across the country.
Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta, currently serving as a judge of the Allahabad High Court, has been recommended as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court. His appointment will take place following the retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice on January 9, 2026.

Justice Revati P. Mohite Dere of the Bombay High Court has been recommended for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court. This recommendation comes in view of the transfer of the present Chief Justice.
Justice A. Muhamed Mustaque, who is currently a judge of the Kerala High Court, has been recommended as the Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court.
Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo of the Orissa High Court has been recommended for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.
