THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

New Delhi, Dec 30: Senior IPS officer Rakesh Aggarwal has been given the additional charge of Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) following the early return of the current chief, Sadanand Vasant Date, to his parent cadre.

The decision was taken by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet cleared Date’s premature repatriation to the Maharashtra cadre with immediate effect.

Aggarwal, a 1994-batch IPS officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre, is presently serving as Special Director General of the NIA.

He was elevated to the post on an in-situ basis on September 29, 2025, through a temporary upgradation of his Additional Director General position, with a tenure of two years or until further orders.
