Jamshedpur, January 8: Large parts of Jharkhand continued to reel under severe winter conditions on Thursday as a cold wave and dense fog affected several districts across the state.
According to weather observations recorded at 8:30 am, minimum temperatures remained well below normal in many areas, indicating the persistence of cold wave conditions.
Temperatures Remain Low Across Districts
Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 23.2°C, slightly below normal, while the minimum dropped to 8.0°C.

Jamshedpur registered a maximum of 25.4°C and a minimum of 8.4°C, both lower than seasonal averages.
Daltonganj witnessed a sharp fall in night temperature, recording a minimum of 3.4°C, while Bokaro recorded 6.5°C.
Chaibasa emerged as the warmest location in the state with a maximum temperature of 28.8°C.

Hazaribagh Coldest at 2.9°C
Hazaribagh recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 2.9°C, making it the coldest place in Jharkhand on Thursday.
Automated Weather Station (AWS) data also confirmed the severity of the cold, with Khunti recording a minimum of 3.2°C. Other districts such as Latehar, Lohardaga, and Bokaro also experienced chilly nights.
Dense Fog Hits Visibility
Dense fog significantly reduced visibility in several areas during the morning hours.
Daltonganj reported the lowest visibility at just 300 metres, while Deoghar recorded visibility of 500 metres, affecting early morning movement and transportation.
IMD Issues Advisory
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that cold wave conditions prevailed in Hazaribagh, Khunti, Daltonganj, Lohardaga, Chaibasa, and Bokaro. Fog was also reported in Daltonganj and Deoghar.
No rainfall was recorded anywhere in the state during the past 24 hours.
IMD officials have advised people to take necessary precautions, especially during early morning and late-night hours, as cold wave and foggy conditions are likely to persist in parts of Jharkhand over the next few days.
