Daltonganj, January 17:  Nilamber Pitamber University on Saturday marked its 17th foundation day by breaking from tradition and introducing a more inclusive academic practice, as it honoured a retired teacher as the chief guest for the first time in its history.

Under the directive of Vice-Chancellor Dr Prof Dinesh Kumar Singh, the university invited veteran academic K. K. Mishra, a retired teacher, to preside as the chief guest at the foundation day ceremony. Until now, the university had traditionally invited senior IAS or IPS officers to grace the occasion.

University officials described the decision as a rare and symbolic moment in the 17-year journey of Nilamber Pitamber University, highlighting respect for academic service and institutional memory.

Vice-Chancellor’s inclusive gesture

Sources said the Vice-Chancellor not only proposed the idea but personally accompanied the chief guest K. K. Mishra, who walked with the support of a tripod, drawing widespread attention and appreciation during the ceremony.

The move has gained significance amid recent resentment among retired teachers in Jharkhand over delays in pension payments. Mishra is a pensioner of Ranchi University, Ranchi.

Festive foundation day celebrations

The foundation day ceremony began on a festive note, with enthusiasm visible across the university campus, marking what many attendees described as a people-centric and academic-focused celebration.
