PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, Jan 21: Jharkhand witnessed a noticeable rise in daytime temperatures across most districts on Wednesday, while night temperatures remained mild and comfortable.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), no rainfall, fog, or cold wave conditions were recorded anywhere in the state during the past 24 hours.

Day Temperatures Above Normal

As per the weather report issued on Wednesday morning, maximum temperatures in several cities remained above normal. Chaibasa in West Singhbhum district recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 31.2°C, nearly 6°C above normal.

Jamshedpur followed with a high of 30.5°C, around 3.3°C above the seasonal average.

Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 26.6°C, about 2.4°C above normal, while Bokaro (Thermal) and Daltonganj registered 28.2°C and 29.2°C, respectively.

The IMD noted only minor fluctuations in daytime temperatures, indicating stable weather conditions across the region.

Comfortable Nights, No Severe Cold

Night temperatures remained largely comfortable, though slightly above normal at some locations. Gumla recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 8.4°C, making it the coldest place during the observation period.

Ranchi reported a minimum temperature of 12.9°C, about 3.1°C above normal, while Jamshedpur recorded 13.2°C.

Data from Automated Weather Stations (AWS) showed similar trends. Seraikela recorded a maximum temperature of 31.2°C, while Jagannathpur in West Singhbhum reported 30.2°C.

Minimum temperatures across most locations ranged between 10°C and 13°C, indicating the absence of severe cold conditions.

No Fog, Rainfall, or Cold Wave

Visibility remained largely normal across Jharkhand, though the lowest visibility of 1,500 metres was reported at the Meteorological Centre in Ranchi. The IMD confirmed that no fog was observed, ensuring smooth road, rail, and air operations across the state.

Importantly, no rainfall was recorded during the observation period, with all surface observatories and AWS stations reporting nil precipitation. The IMD also confirmed that no cold wave conditions prevailed anywhere in Jharkhand.

Stable Weather Likely to Continue

Weather experts said the gradual rise in daytime temperatures is typical for this phase of winter and does not indicate an early end to the season.

Residents have been advised to continue taking precautions during early mornings and late evenings, especially in districts such as Gumla, Latehar, and Lohardaga, where minimum temperatures remain relatively low.

The IMD’s Ranchi centre has forecast that stable weather conditions will continue over the next few days, with clear skies and dry conditions likely across most parts of the state.
