Ranchi, February 25: The Faculty of Agriculture at Usha Martin University organised an eco-friendly Holi celebration at its Angara campus, promoting sustainable practices through an Organic Gulal and Traditional Cuisine Festival.

The event was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Madhulika Kaushik and Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Milind, who formally opened the programme with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting.

Addressing students and faculty members, Prof. Kaushik emphasised that sustainability is a global responsibility and that higher education institutions must lead by example. She noted that Usha Martin University integrates sustainability into both academics and campus activities, and described the organic Holi celebration as a practical demonstration of environmental responsibility and community awareness.

Hands-On Learning Through Student-Managed Stalls

Prof. Milind highlighted the educational value of the initiative, stating that organising and managing stalls provided students with practical exposure to planning, teamwork, budgeting and marketing. He added that preparing and selling organic gulal and traditional Holi food helped students understand the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, innovation and self-reliance.

A total of 14 stalls were set up during the festival, featuring organic gulal made from natural ingredients such as flowers, cornflour and essential oils. The chemical-free colours attracted students, faculty and visitors. Traditional Holi cuisine added to the festive atmosphere.

Sustainability Awareness and Community Engagement

The festival was coordinated by Miss Priya Priyanka and Miss Juhi Chandra, ensuring smooth organisation and active student participation.

The eco-conscious Holi celebration not only marked the festival of colours but also reinforced awareness about sustainability, healthy living, organic products, student entrepreneurship and community engagement at Usha Martin University.
