New Delhi, March 17:
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered a second round of transfers of senior police officers in West Bengal ahead of the Assembly elections. The reshuffle includes new postings for the North and South Bengal regions and changes in key commissionerates, with immediate effect.

A day after transferring four top police officials, the ECI announced fresh appointments to strengthen the administrative setup before the polls.

Dr Rajesh Kumar Singh (IPS 1991) has been appointed as ADG & IGP, South Bengal Region, while K Jayaraman (IPS 1991) will serve as ADG & IGP, North Bengal Region.

Dr Pranav Kumar (IPS 2003) has been posted as Commissioner of Police, Asansol-Durgapur. Akhilesh Kumar Chaturvedi (IPS 2005) will take charge as Commissioner of Police, Howrah. Amit Kumar Singh (IPS 2009) has been appointed Commissioner of Police, Barrackpore, and Sunil Kumar Yadav (IPS 2009) will serve as Commissioner of Police, Chandannagar.

In addition, the Election Commission has deployed 1,111 observers for the ongoing General Elections to the Legislative Assemblies of Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, along with bye-elections in six states.
