Jamshedpur, March 18: Thunderstorm activity across Jharkhand is expected to continue till March 21, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting lightning, gusty winds of 40–50 kmph, and light to moderate rainfall at isolated places over the next three days.

Weather activity is likely to intensify from March 19 onwards, although north-western parts of the state may remain largely unaffected on the first day of the forecast period.

Western Disturbance Driving Weather Change

Meteorological inputs indicate that the current weather pattern is being influenced by a western disturbance in the form of a trough in the middle and upper-level westerlies. This system extends along longitude 80°E, north of latitude 22°N, at around 5.8 km above mean sea level.

In addition, an upper air cyclonic circulation over East Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas at about 0.9 km altitude is contributing to the instability.

The subtropical westerly jet stream, with wind speeds reaching nearly 110 knots at 12.6 km altitude, is also active over East India, supporting thunderstorm development.

Rainfall and Thunderstorm Activity Already Reported

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms has already been recorded at isolated locations across Jharkhand. The ongoing conditions suggest continued spells of rain, lightning, and gusty winds in the coming days.

Temperature Trends Across Cities

Temperature variations were recorded across major cities on Tuesday:

  • Daltonganj: 36.8°C (highest)
  • Jamshedpur: 34.1°C
  • Ranchi: 32.2°C
  • Bokaro: 32.2°C

The expected rainfall and cloud cover may bring slight relief from rising temperatures.

Residents can expect intermittent rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds till March 21. While the weather may cool temperatures temporarily, caution is advised due to lightning and strong winds.
