Daltonganj, April 9:
The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) has strongly opposed the omission of Magahi and Bhojpuri from the JTET exam for eligible candidates in Palamu district. A human chain protest will be held from Sahitya Samaj Chowk to Chhoumuhan on Friday, announced BJYM district president Vipul Gupta.

BJP leaders term decision ‘unfair’, demand inclusion of local languages

At a press conference, MLAs Alok Chourasiya and Shashi Bhushan Mehta, along with BJYM leaders Vipul Gupta and Shyam Narayan Dubey, under district BJP president Amit Tiwary, criticised the state government’s decision. Tiwary called the move “unfair and injudicious,” saying, “We respect all languages, but a language not spoken locally should not be imposed, especially in a competitive exam.”

He added that the issue goes beyond students and concerns the identity of residents. He also alleged that languages like Oriya and Bengali are being prioritised over Magahi and Bhojpuri.

BJP backs candidates, warns of larger agitation

BJYM leaders said the issue is social, not political, and reflects public sentiment in Palamu. MLA Alok Chourasiya assured candidates of the BJP’s support, urging youth to join the protest. “The government cannot deny opportunities to students in this manner,” he said.

MLA Shashi Bhushan Mehta also criticised the decision, calling it a “step-motherly attitude” and questioning the relevance of languages not widely spoken in the region for a job exam.
