New Delhi, April 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday assured the Lok Sabha that the proposed delimitation exercise would be fair and non-discriminatory, amid concerns raised by opposition parties.
Assures no bias, calls for consensus
Addressing the House, Modi said the process would be guided by fairness and national interest, stressing that no region would be treated unjustly. “Whether it is the North, South, East or West, no one will face discrimination,” he said, adding that any future increase in representation would follow established proportional principles.
He urged political parties to rise above differences and not view delimitation through a political lens, describing it as a step to strengthen democracy rather than benefit any one party.

Push for women’s participation in governance
Highlighting the broader reform agenda, the Prime Minister emphasised the need for greater participation of women in decision-making. He said ensuring representation for women, who make up nearly half the population, is essential for building a “Viksit Bharat.”
Referring to the growing role of women leaders at the grassroots, Modi noted that lakhs of women have gained leadership experience through Panchayati Raj institutions over the past few decades. He said many district and block panchayats, as well as hundreds of urban local bodies, are now led by women, contributing significantly to development.
Calling the moment a milestone in India’s democratic journey, Modi said the country must expand participation in governance while staying committed to inclusive growth. He also reiterated that the government is open to giving assurances if needed and appealed for collective support to move forward.
