Ranchi, April 16: Construction of what is being billed as eastern India’s largest Sankatmochan Hanuman Dham is progressing fast in Chatra district, even as a grand Rath Yatra in Ranchi on Thursday drew large crowds and highlighted communal harmony.

Rath Yatra sees strong turnout, unity on display

The Sankatmochan Rath Yatra began at 7:30 am from the Hanuman Temple in Argora and passed through Kadru and Chutia before concluding at Hinoo Chowk. Devotees gathered in large numbers along the route, creating a festive and devotional atmosphere.

A notable moment came near the Haj House in Kadru, where members of the Muslim community welcomed the procession with garlands, traditional stoles and refreshments, sending a strong message of brotherhood and unity.

Prominent citizens, including professionals and businesspersons, also joined the procession. At various نقاط, organisers arranged water, fruits, sweets and beverages for participants.

8-acre temple complex taking shape in Chatra

The Sankatmochan Dham, coming up in Piri under the Simaria block of Chatra district, is being developed over nearly 8 acres as a major spiritual and cultural centre. The complex will feature a 108-foot-tall statue of Lord Hanuman, along with temples dedicated to Ram Darbar, Shiv Parivar and Sankatmochan Hanuman.

Plans also include an Ashoka Vatika spread over one acre, replicas of mythological sites such as Dashrath Kund, Sita Rasoi and sages’ ashrams, as well as a 20,000 sq ft Valmiki auditorium and a library dedicated to Sanatan literature.

Organisers said devotees are contributing soil and sacred rice through the Rath Yatra, which will be used in the foundation, aiming to connect people across the state with the project. The upcoming complex is expected to emerge as a major hub for religious tourism.
