TN CM Vijay announces 200 free power units, promises ‘new era of social justice’

Chennai, May 10: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder C Joseph Vijay on Sunday announced 200 units of free electricity for domestic consumers soon after assuming office.

Vijay signed key files related to the free power scheme, formation of a special force for women’s safety and creation of anti-drug trafficking units across the state immediately after taking charge.

‘New Era of Secularism and Social Justice’

In his maiden address at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium after the swearing-in ceremony, Vijay said a new era of governance committed to “real secularism and social justice” had begun in Tamil Nadu.

The actor-turned-politician asserted that there would be no parallel power centres in his government.

“There will be no power centre other than me. I will be the only centre of power,” Vijay said, stressing accountability for government policies and decisions.

Vijay Retains Perambur Seat

According to the Tamil Nadu Assembly Secretariat, Vijay resigned from the Tiruchirappalli East Assembly constituency and retained the Perambur seat.

An official release stated that before taking the oath as Chief Minister, Vijay submitted his resignation letter through Ministers K A Sengottaiyan and P Venkataraman to Assembly Principal Secretary K Srinivasan.

CM Promises Transparency, White Paper on State Finances

Seeking patience from the public, Vijay asked people to give his government a reasonable time to fulfil its promises and implement governance reforms.

On the state’s financial condition, he said the government was considering issuing a white paper on Tamil Nadu’s finances.

“I have taken up this responsibility with the unbearable burden of over Rs 10 lakh crore debt. We will release a white paper for a transparent government, informing the public about the current state of Tamil Nadu,” he said.

Strict Action Against Drugs, Focus on Clean Governance

Vijay also promised strict action against drug-related crimes and assured transparent governance.

“I will not touch a single paisa of people,” he said.

The Chief Minister thanked Congress, VCK, IUML and Left parties for supporting TVK in forming the government.

Vijay Thanks Children for TVK Victory

In an emotional message, Vijay thanked children for supporting his party and encouraging their families to vote for TVK.

“A special word of thanks to the little friends who call me ‘Vijay Mama.’ It is because of them that all of this has happened,” he said.

“I will repay my debt of gratitude to you by working for your future. Stay confident this Vijay Mama will always be there for you,” he added.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also congratulated Vijay, TVK and the alliance partners after the swearing-in ceremony.
