Jamshedpur, May 13: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has extended its thunderstorm warning for Jharkhand till May 18, forecasting lightning, heavy winds, and unstable weather conditions across several districts over the next five days.
According to the latest IMD bulletin, wind speeds may reach 40 to 60 kmph in different parts of the state during the period.
Thunderstorm activity to intensify on May 15
The weather department said thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are likely on May 13 and 14 in most parts of Jharkhand, except the north-western and adjoining northern regions.
Weather activity is expected to intensify on May 15, with stronger winds of 50-60 kmph predicted over the north-eastern and central parts of the state, including Ranchi, Khunti, Ramgarh, Bokaro, and Dhanbad.
On May 16, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are likely over the remaining districts.
The IMD forecast also indicated thunderstorms and gusty winds over the north-eastern and southern regions on May 17, while unsettled weather conditions are expected to continue on May 18.
IMD advisory for residents and farmers
“The weather department has advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorm activity and avoid taking shelter under trees or venturing into open fields during lightning strikes.”
Farmers and people involved in outdoor work have also been urged to stay updated with official weather advisories.
Rain and strong winds disrupt normal life
The latest alert comes after several parts of Jharkhand, including Ranchi and Jamshedpur, witnessed rainfall and strong winds earlier this week. The weather conditions led to uprooted trees, traffic disruptions, and minor damage in several localities.
