PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, May 25: Residents of Jamshedpur woke up to a fresh fuel price hike on Monday, with petrol crossing the Rs 105 mark and diesel breaching Rs 100 per litre, adding pressure on household and transportation budgets.

According to the revised rates effective May 25, Motor Spirit (Petrol) increased from Rs 102.61 per litre to Rs 105.27 per litre, registering a hike of Rs 2.66 per litre.

High-Speed Diesel (HSD) recorded an even steeper rise, climbing from Rs 97.61 per litre to Rs 100.44 per litre, an increase of Rs 2.83 per litre.

Meanwhile, Speed Petrol now costs Rs 114.21 per litre, up from Rs 111.54 per litre.

Transport and Daily Expenses Likely to Rise

The sharp increase in fuel prices is expected to impact private vehicle owners as well as commercial transport operators, with fears of higher transport fares and rising prices of essential commodities.

“This continuous rise in fuel prices is becoming difficult to manage. Every hike directly impacts our monthly budget,” said a local commuter in Jamshedpur.

A city-based auto-rickshaw driver expressed concern over the diesel price hike.

“With diesel now crossing Rs 100, operating costs have gone up sharply. It will be hard to sustain without increasing fares,” he said.

Residents fear the ripple effect of rising fuel costs could soon be felt across transportation, logistics and daily consumer expenses.
