340 PMAY houses handed over to beneficiaries in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, June 20: A total of 340 houses constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) were formally handed over to beneficiaries in Jamshedpur on Friday, bringing relief to hundreds of families who had been waiting for their homes for several years.

The keys were distributed during a programme inaugurated virtually by Jharkhand Urban Development Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu.

Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy also joined the event virtually from Ranchi.

Three-Year Delay Before Handover

The housing project, located in Birsanagar, was launched with the objective of providing affordable housing to economically weaker sections under the Centre’s flagship PMAY scheme.

The foundation stone for the project was laid in 2018, and the houses were initially scheduled to be completed and handed over in 2023.

However, the project faced multiple delays, resulting in a wait of nearly three years beyond the original handover timeline.

Beneficiaries Finally Get Their Homes

The distribution of keys marked the culmination of a long wait for the beneficiaries, many of whom had been anticipating possession of their houses for several years.

The PMAY initiative aims to provide affordable and permanent housing to eligible families belonging to economically weaker and lower-income groups.

Saryu Roy Supporters Credit MLA’s Intervention

Supporters of MLA Saryu Roy claimed that the handover process gained momentum following sustained efforts by the legislator to ensure the completion of the project.

According to them, Roy repeatedly raised the issue and exerted pressure on the authorities concerned to expedite construction and hand over the houses to eligible beneficiaries.

The completion and allocation of the houses are expected to provide a significant boost to affordable housing efforts in Jamshedpur and improve living conditions for hundreds of families.
