Jamshedpur, June 24: Sona Devi University, Ghatshila, organised a series of awareness programmes in Kitadih village as part of Nasha Mukt Bharat Week, reaching out to villagers through door-to-door campaigns, rallies and educational activities aimed at promoting a drug-free society.
The university’s volunteers, faculty members and students visited households across the village to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
Special emphasis was placed on engaging women, who were encouraged to play an active role in preventing substance abuse within their families and communities. The campaign highlighted the social, economic and health consequences of addiction and stressed the importance of collective action in tackling the problem.
Awareness Rally Draws Community Participation
A large anti-drug awareness rally led by Vice-Chancellor Dr Braj Mohan Pat Pingua was taken out through the village.
Participants carried placards and raised slogans promoting a drug-free lifestyle and social responsibility in combating addiction. Registrar Dr Nit Nayna, faculty members, staff and students joined the rally.
Schoolchildren Sensitised on Healthy Living
The university team also visited Upgraded Middle School, Kitadih, where students were educated about the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of making informed life choices.
Children were encouraged to adopt healthy lifestyles through balanced nutrition, sports and other constructive activities. The session focused on building awareness among adolescents about the long-term consequences of drug addiction.
The campaign concluded with a seminar at the university’s Vivekananda Auditorium.
Addressing the gathering, Assistant Professor of Sanskrit Dr Sujit Kumar discussed various narcotic substances, their growing impact on society and measures to prevent addiction.
Registrar Dr Nit Nayna urged the community to support individuals struggling with addiction and help them reintegrate into society, while Vice-Chancellor Dr Braj Mohan Pat Pingua stressed the need for sustained grassroots awareness initiatives and greater engagement with young people.
Pledge for a Drug-Free India
The programme concluded with participants taking a pledge to stay away from drugs and contribute towards the vision of a drug-free India.
University officials said community participation and continuous awareness efforts are crucial to curbing substance abuse and building a healthier society.
