Jamshedpur, June 30: The East Singhbhum police have suspended three personnel in connection with the stabbing incident outside a night bar in Jamshedpur’s Bistupur after the victim, Himanshu Singh, died during treatment, triggering protests and renewed demands for swift action against those responsible.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Piyush Pandey ordered the immediate suspension of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ratan Kumar Das, ASI Rajesh Kumar Ranjan, and constable Manoj Kumar, reiterating the department’s zero-tolerance policy towards negligence in the discharge of official duties.
The three policemen were part of the patrol team that responded to the stabbing incident at DD Club, a night bar in Bistupur, on Saturday night. Preliminary findings reportedly pointed to lapses in the performance of their duties, prompting disciplinary action.
SSP assures fair investigation
SSP Piyush Pandey said the Bistupur bar stabbing case is being investigated with the utmost seriousness.
“The incident is under a fair and impartial investigation. Whenever questions arise regarding police functioning, the department acts firmly to ensure accountability,” Pandey said.
He added that the suspension of the three police personnel was necessary to facilitate an unbiased inquiry.
The SSP also warned that if the ongoing investigation establishes the involvement or negligence of any other police officer or personnel, strict departmental action will be taken in accordance with the law.
“Accountability remains paramount in the police force, and negligence at any level will not be tolerated,” he said.
Police officials said the inquiry is continuing and that further departmental as well as legal action will be decided after the investigation report is submitted. They described the suspensions as a significant step towards reinforcing discipline and accountability within the force.
Victim dies, protests break out
Meanwhile, tensions escalated in Bistupur after Himanshu Singh succumbed to his injuries at Tata Main Hospital (TMH) on Monday evening.
Following his death, angry protesters, including members of Singh’s family, blocked the Bistupur roundabout near the Regal Building late Monday night. Demonstrators demanded the immediate arrest of all the accused and stringent action against those involved in the fatal attack outside the night bar.
Police maintained a vigil in the area to prevent any escalation of the situation while the investigation into the murder continues.
