Ranchi, July 7: Jharkhand BJP State President Aditya Sahu on Tuesday demanded the immediate arrest of all absconding accused in the murder of Anita Devi, a pregnant Dalit woman from Bokaro’s Bermo area, and called for a speedy trial in a fast-track court to ensure justice.
Anita Devi’s family met Sahu in Ranchi and alleged that they have been receiving death threats from the accused. They sought protection for their lives and property and appealed for justice.
The victim’s husband, Mahesh Bhuiyan, daughter Manya Kumari and son Adi Kumar told the BJP leader that of the 17 accused named in the case, only nine have been arrested so far, while eight remain absconding.
According to the family, those still at large have been issuing death threats, while some of the accused who were earlier jailed have allegedly threatened to harm the family after securing their release. They said they are living in constant fear.

BJP Calls for Impartial Investigation
Sahu assured the family of the BJP’s support and said the party had been raising the issue since the day of the incident.
He alleged that Anita Devi was beaten to death on May 29 while returning after collecting coal for household fuel. He further alleged that attempts were made to manage the situation with the support of the state government, local administration and the ruling party.
Sahu claimed that the police arrested some of the accused only after the BJP announced a road blockade in Bokaro.
He said the allegations made by the victim’s family were serious and urged the police to act impartially by immediately arresting all absconding accused and ensuring justice for the family.
Demand for Fast-Track Trial
The BJP leader also demanded that the case be tried in a fast-track court to ensure speedy punishment for those found guilty. He further called for adequate security to be provided to Anita Devi’s family.
Sahu also alleged that criminals were receiving protection under the present state government and warned that the BJP would launch an agitation if there was any negligence in the investigation or prosecution of the case.
State General Secretaries Ganesh Mishra, Amar Kumar Bauri and Manoj Singh, State Media In-charge Yogendra Pratap Singh, and Bokaro District Vice-President Archana Singh were also present during the meeting.
