IIT (ISM) Dhanbad holds seed ball throwing, plantation drive

Dhanbad, July 7: Reinforcing its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development, the EIACP Programme Centre of the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering (ESE), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, in association with the institute’s Horticulture Section, organised a Seed Ball Throwing and Plantation Drive under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign in the Nirsa area as part of Van Mahotsav 2026.

Drive Promotes Ecological Restoration

The initiative aimed to promote ecological restoration, enhance green cover and encourage greater public participation in environmental conservation.

Participants dispersed seed balls containing native plant seeds at suitable locations to support natural regeneration and also planted saplings under the campaign.

Experts Stress Community Participation

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Suresh Pandian, Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering and Co-coordinator of the EIACP Programme Centre, highlighted the importance of community participation in restoring degraded landscapes and preserving biodiversity.

He said initiatives such as seed ball throwing and plantation drives can collectively make a significant contribution towards building a greener and more sustainable future.

Students Join Environmental Campaign

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from undergraduate and postgraduate students, research scholars of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, as well as students from other colleges in Dhanbad. Participants also spread awareness about environmental conservation and sustainable living.

Among those present were Dr. Dheeraj Kumar, Horticulture Officer, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad; Bishwajit Das, Programme Officer, EIACP Programme Centre; and Dr. Avantika Chandra, Information Officer, EIACP Programme Centre.

The plantation drive was organised as part of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s continued efforts to support the objectives of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) by promoting environmentally responsible practices and inspiring collective action for a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future.
