Dhanbad, Dec 28: Star-studded Team Stalemate emerged as the winner in the West Singhbhum Sitaram Rungta Invitation Blitz Team Chess Championship, which concluded at Recreation Hall Chaibasa on Wednesday evening.
The championship was organized on the 104th birth anniversary of the late Sitaram Rungta.
After stipulated ten rounds, Team Stalemate comprising Manish Sharma ( 1674 rating), Aniket Verma (1368), Ishan Choubey ( 1159), and Suraj Tiu ( 0 rating) mustered the highest 27 points to ensure the trophy to the team.
Each round of lightning championship was fixed for 3 minutes and 2 seconds.
Team Grey Material, with 22 points, bagged the second position. The team was comprised of Sandil Nirmal Chandra (1495 rating), Tanisk Kumar (1243), Jaydeo Tripathi (0 rating), and Arpit Khirwal (0 rating).

Team King of 64, comprising rating player Basant Raj Soy (1265), Nitesh Kumar Singh (0 rating), Robin Mahto, and Subrat Tripathi, got 3rd position with 22 points.
In the championship, rated player Basant Khandelwal (1593) of Team Zugzwang was declared the best individual player playing on board no .1 in the tournament. He earned 9 points out of 10. Jaydeo Tripathi of Team Grey Material was declared the best player on board no.2nd. He got the highest 7 points.
Tanisk Kumar became the best player of board no. 3. He got 9 points out of 10, while Subrat Chandra Tripathi of Team King of 64 was declared the best player of Board no.4. He earned 9.5 points out of 10 rounds.
Earlier, SDM Animesh Ranjan inaugurated the championship and highly appreciated the SR Rungta group’s efforts in promoting sports in the region, which led to the emergence of state and national players.
West Singhbhum District Olympic Association president Nitin Prakash was guest of honour on the occasion. District Chess Association president Mukund Rungta congratulated officials of the association for organising the championship successfully.
On the occasion, vice-president Jahangir Alam, Rakesh Kumar Budhiya, Anant Lal Vishwakarma, Dr Veena Mudra, Pawan Khirwal, Sunil Rungta, Sushil Choumal, Arun Prasad, and others were also present.
