Daltonganj, July 25: There is renewed hope for the restoration of the science faculty at A.K. Singh College, Japla, and SSMS Degree College, Tarhassi, as Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU) has allowed both institutions to rectify deficiencies before the Chancellor’s admission portal closes on July 30.
The university has withheld the extension of temporary affiliation for the science faculty of both colleges for the 2026-30 academic session after an inspection team identified five major deficiencies, including a shortage of faculty members and a significant mismatch between the number of teachers and students enrolled under the National Education Policy (NEP) framework.
NPU asks colleges to address deficiencies immediately
Addressing a press conference in Daltonganj on Saturday, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Dinesh Kumar Singh urged both colleges to act swiftly.
“A.K. Singh College should act fast and remove the five deficiencies before the Chancellor’s admission portal closes on July 30,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
He said the same opportunity was available to SSMS Degree College, Tarhassi, and stressed that the university was willing to facilitate admissions once the shortcomings were addressed.
“The university is giving both colleges a chance. If they remove the deficiencies before July 30, we have no objection to opening the Chancellor’s portal for admissions to their science faculty,” he said.
The academic session 2026-30 is scheduled to commence on August 7, as per the state government’s academic calendar.
VC rejects allegations of bias
During the press conference, the Vice-Chancellor was asked whether the university was being biased against A.K. Singh College.
Responding to the question, Dr. Singh categorically denied the allegation.
“Absolutely not,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor reiterated that the university’s decision was based solely on compliance with affiliation norms and not on the identity of any particular institution.
“Both colleges must comply with the prescribed norms for temporary affiliation. Once the deficiencies are removed, the university has no reservation in granting the necessary approval,” he added.
University recalls last year’s relief
Dr. Singh also pointed out that the university had extended relief to both colleges in 2025, despite deficiencies flagged by the inspection team.
He said the temporary affiliation for the 2025-29 session was allowed to continue after intervention by the university, and urged both institutions to address the current issues constructively instead of escalating the matter.
Deadline crucial for admissions
With only a few days remaining before the Chancellor’s admission portal closes on July 30, both colleges face a race against time to meet the required norms.
Whether A.K. Singh College and SSMS Degree College can rectify the deficiencies before the deadline will determine if admissions to their science faculty can begin for the 2026-30 session.
