JPSC Row: Former Member’s PA BN Ram arrested over alleged ₹40 lakh extortion to fix interviews

Ranchi, August 17: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested BN Ram, Personal Assistant (PA) to former Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) member Dr Ajita Bhattacharya, in connection with alleged irregularities in the recruitment examination process.

Ram is accused of allegedly collecting around ₹40 lakh from candidates on the promise of managing or influencing their JPSC interview scores and helping them secure selection.

CID Probes Alleged ₹40 Lakh Collection

According to the investigation, the CID suspects that money was demanded from candidates with assurances that their interview marks could be increased to improve their chances of selection.

Ram’s alleged role came under the agency’s scanner during the investigation. The CID subsequently arrested him after questioning and examining the evidence available in the case.

Investigators are now trying to establish how the alleged ₹40 lakh was collected, from whom the money was received and who ultimately benefited from it.

The agency is also examining whether other JPSC officials or individuals were involved in the alleged arrangement.

Former JPSC Chairman L. Khyangte Sent to Jail

Meanwhile, former JPSC Chairman L. Khyangte was questioned by the CID for two consecutive days as part of the ongoing investigation.

After completion of the questioning, Khyangte was sent to jail.

The CID has been investigating allegations relating to irregularities in the JPSC examination process, including alleged tampering with evidence and interference in the conduct of examinations.

Investigation Widens Into JPSC Recruitment Process

The arrest of BN Ram and the sending of L. Khyangte to jail are being viewed as significant developments in the CID investigation into alleged irregularities at the commission.

Investigators are now examining the broader network allegedly involved in influencing the recruitment process and determining whether candidates were approached for money in return for assurances of favourable interview marks.

The CID is also probing the possible roles of former JPSC officials and other persons who may have been connected with the alleged collection and distribution of money.

The investigation is continuing.
