Daltonganj, September 7: A 48-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her husband at their roadside eatery in Latehar town, with police arresting the accused in connection with the incident.
The deceased was identified as Sangeeta Devi, wife of Ravinder Yadav. The couple reportedly ran the small roadside eatery where the incident is suspected to have taken place.
Latehar SDPO Sandip Kumar Gupta said police had arrested Yadav, who allegedly confessed to strangulating his wife following a dispute while under the influence of alcohol.
Yadav was produced before a court and sent to judicial custody on Sunday, the SDPO said.
The incident is suspected to have occurred during the intervening night of September 4 and 5.
According to police, the woman’s body was discovered after locals noticed a strong foul smell emanating from the roadside eatery on Saturday evening. The body had started decomposing by then.
Police reached the spot and recovered the body. A post-mortem examination was subsequently conducted at Sadar Hospital, Latehar.
The SDPO said marks consistent with strangulation were found on the woman’s body.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing and the events leading up to the alleged crime.
