Jamshedpur, September 10: Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahto has been conferred the prestigious Parliament Ratna Award 2026 for his performance in the Lok Sabha, securing the honour for the fifth consecutive time.
The award was presented to Mahato at a ceremony held at Bhim Hall of the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi.
Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy presented the award in the presence of Union Minister of State for Education and Development of North Eastern Region Sukanta Majumdar.
Former Chief Justice of India Justice B.R. Gavai delivered the keynote address, while the event was presided over by former National Commission for Backwards Classes chairman Hansraj Ahir.
10 Lok Sabha MPs, two Rajya Sabha members honoured
The Parliament Ratna Awards 2026, instituted under the aegis of the Prime Point Foundation and the Parliament Ratna Award Committee, recognised 10 Lok Sabha members, two Rajya Sabha members and four parliamentary committees for their performance up to the end of the Budget Session this year.
The other Lok Sabha members selected for the award included Jagdambika Pal, P.P. Chaudhary, Nishikant Dubey, Eknath Shinde, Praveen Patel, Lumba Ram Choudhary, Hemant Vishnu Sava, Smita Uday Wagh, Naresh Ganpat Mhaske and Medha Vishram Kulkarni.
Award committee formed on A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s suggestion
The Parliament Ratna Award Committee was constituted following a suggestion made by former President and Bharat Ratna Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
The award recognises parliamentarians on the basis of their performance, participation and contribution to parliamentary proceedings.
Mahto dedicates award to Jamshedpur voters
Reacting to the honour, Mahato dedicated the award to the people of the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituency.
He said he had never worked in Parliament with the objective of receiving an award, but had consistently sought to raise important issues—whether large or small—through questions and interventions to draw the government’s attention to matters concerning the people.
Mahato said he had endeavoured to raise not only issues related to his constituency but also matters of wider significance at the state and national levels.
“My sole objective is to serve the people,” he said, adding that ensuring that the voice of the people who elected him reached Parliament remained his foremost priority.
The fifth consecutive Parliament Ratna Award adds another recognition to Mahato’s parliamentary performance and highlights his continued participation in Lok Sabha proceedings.
