Dhanbad, September 11: Dr Shalu Rani, Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics Engineering at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, has been appointed to the Editorial Board of the prestigious , marking a significant recognition of her research expertise and growing international academic standing.
Effective September 8, Dr Rani becomes the only woman from India among the six Indian members on the journal’s Editorial Board, making the achievement particularly noteworthy for both her and IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.
Her selection reflects her research contributions in energy storage, advanced materials and emerging electronic technologies. The IIT (ISM) Dhanbad faculty profile also lists her as an Editorial Board Member of the Chemical Engineering Journal, published by Elsevier.
Dr Rani to contribute to global research platform
The Chemical Engineering Journal is a leading international, peer-reviewed publication featuring high-impact research in chemical engineering and interdisciplinary fields, including energy conversion and storage, advanced materials, sensors and biomaterials.
As an Editorial Board member, Dr Rani will contribute to the journal’s editorial activities, support rigorous peer review and help advance innovative interdisciplinary research.

Research focuses on energy storage and emerging technologies
Dr Rani’s research interests include advanced supercapacitors and micro-supercapacitors, lithium-ion batteries, flexible electronics and memristors for neuromorphic computing.
Her recent research has also featured in the Chemical Engineering Journal, including a 2026 review on supercapacitor-integrated self-powered sensors.
Her work spans the development of advanced materials and energy-storage technologies with potential applications in next-generation electronics, wearable devices and emerging computing systems.
PhD from IIT Roorkee
Dr Rani holds a PhD in Nanotechnology from IIT Roorkee, where her doctoral research focused on binder-free TiO₂-based flexible supercapacitors for low-power wearable electronics.
She also holds an M.Tech and B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering.
Her appointment to the Editorial Board adds to IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s growing engagement with leading international research and scholarly platforms. It highlights the institute’s contribution to cutting-edge research in energy storage, advanced materials and electronic technologies.
The appointment is also being seen as a notable academic milestone for Dr Rani, particularly as she becomes the only woman from India among the six Indian representatives on the Chemical Engineering Journal Editorial Board.
