Jamshedpur, Sept 16: A Hyva truck carrying around 500 cubic feet (CFT) of sand was seized by the District Mining Office team in Potka’s Kovali police station area late Tuesday night for allegedly transporting the mineral without valid documents.
The action was part of the district administration’s ongoing drive against illegal mining and unauthorised transportation of minerals and was carried out on the directions of East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan.
During the inspection, officials found around 500 CFT of sand loaded on the Hyva bearing registration number OD19B-9810. The persons associated with the vehicle allegedly failed to produce valid transportation documents for the consignment.
Preliminary verification indicated that the sand was being transported from Odisha. Finding the transportation unauthorised, the mining officials seized both the vehicle and the sand and initiated legal proceedings.
FIR Registered at Kovali Police Station
An FIR has been registered at Kovali police station, while further action is being taken under the relevant provisions governing illegal mining and mineral transportation.
The district administration has stepped up monitoring of the movement of sand and other minerals and said enforcement teams would continue conducting checks at vulnerable locations.
Officials warned that vehicles and persons found involved in the illegal extraction, transportation or storage of sand would face action as per the law.
