Ranchi, September 19: The Central Government on Saturday notified the appointment of 14 judicial officers as judges and additional judges to four High Courts, including three judicial officers elevated to the Jharkhand High Court.
For Jharkhand, Manoj Prasad, Akhil Kumar and Ram Sharma have been appointed as judges of the Jharkhand High Court. Their appointment comes as the court has been functioning with vacancies against its sanctioned strength of 25 judges.
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments, stating that the President had appointed the judicial officers in exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India and after consultation with the Chief Justice of India.
Jharkhand High Court to get three new judges
The appointments of Manoj Prasad, Akhil Kumar and Ram Sharma will add three judges to the Jharkhand High Court Bench. Before the latest appointments, the court had 13 judges against a sanctioned strength of 25, leaving 12 vacancies.
With the appointment of the three judicial officers, the court’s working strength is set to rise to 16 judges, subject to their joining and assumption of office.
The addition of judges is significant for the Ranchi-based High Court, which handles a wide range of civil, criminal, constitutional and service-related matters from across the state.
14 judicial appointments notified across four High Courts
The Centre’s notification covers appointments to the Delhi, J&K and Ladakh, Jharkhand and Karnataka High Courts.
For the Delhi High Court, Nivedita Anil Sharma and Nisha Sahay Saxena have been appointed as judges, while Sanjay Sharma, Bharat Parashar, Aditi Choudhary, Dinesh Bhatt and Arun Bhardwaj have been appointed as additional judges.
For the J&K and Ladakh High Court, Yashpal Bourney has been appointed as a judge.
For the Karnataka High Court, Usha Rani, KS Bharath Kumar and Nerale V Bhavnani have been appointed as additional judges.
The appointments were notified after the required constitutional process, including consultation with the Chief Justice of India.
Focus on strengthening judicial capacity
The appointment of the three new judges is expected to augment the judicial strength of the Jharkhand High Court and contribute to the court’s capacity to deal with its pending and incoming cases.
The latest notification is part of a wider set of judicial appointments covering four High Courts.
