Daltonganj, September 29: Latehar police have arrested three youths in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of a minor boy at Patki on NH-39 on September 27, police said.
The arrested accused have been identified as Arbaaz Alam, 21, Sameer Ansari, 18, and Kamlesh Kumar Singh, 19. They were arrested following an investigation based on technical and human intelligence and were subsequently forwarded to judicial custody.
Love affair allegedly behind murder plot
SDPO Sadar Latehar Sandip Kumar Gupta said Alam was allegedly in a relationship with the minor boy’s sister, which was opposed by the boy.
According to police, Alam considered the minor a hurdle in his relationship and allegedly conspired with Ansari and Singh to either blackmail him or eliminate him.
Police said Alam called the minor to Patki on September 27, promising to end his relationship with the boy’s sister. When the boy arrived, Alam allegedly threatened him with obscene photographs of his sister and demanded ₹1 lakh, claiming the photographs would otherwise be made public.
Boy allegedly thrown before tipper
According to SDPO Gupta, an argument broke out between Alam and the minor, followed by a scuffle. Police allege that Alam assaulted the boy and threw him in front of an approaching tipper truck on NH-39 in an attempt to make the incident appear to be a road accident.
The injured boy was taken to Sadar Hospital, Latehar, where he reportedly gave police information about Alam during treatment. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Disclosure led to two more arrests
Police first arrested Alam, whose alleged disclosure led to the subsequent arrests of Ansari and Singh.
Gupta said Singh was not directly involved in the assault and allegedly acted as an informer for Alam regarding the minor. Ansari, who was temporarily residing in Bendi village, allegedly supported Alam during the incident, police said.
Police said the case was cracked within a day following the use of technical and human intelligence. The investigation was launched after the deceased boy’s father, Shyam Kumar Paswan, filed a written complaint at Latehar police station on September 27.
Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death and the specific roles of the three accused.
