Ranchi, October 7: The Jharkhand High Court Legal Services Committee on Wednesday organised a blood donation camp on its premises, collecting 205 units of blood for patients in need, particularly those suffering from thalassemia.
Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice Mahesh Sharadchandra Sonak inaugurated the camp, appealing to people to come forward for voluntary blood donation and describing donors as real-life heroes whose generosity can save lives.
Chief Justice Appeals for Voluntary Blood Donation
Addressing donors, Chief Justice Sonak said blood donors may not always look like traditional heroes, but their courage and compassion can give someone a new lease of life.
He said a unit of blood donated within minutes could help save a mother and child, support a child suffering from thalassemia or give an accident victim a chance to survive.
The Chief Justice emphasised that blood donation was not merely an act of courage but also an expression of compassion towards people who may be strangers.
He appreciated the donors and organisations involved in the camp and urged people to continue contributing to such humanitarian initiatives.
205 Units Collected for Patients
According to the High Court, 205 units of blood were collected during this year’s camp, keeping in mind the growing requirements of thalassemia patients.
The initiative has been organised at the High Court premises once or twice every year since 2015, making it a long-running voluntary blood donation effort.
The camp saw participation from High Court advocates, officers and employees, police personnel, women advocates and employees, and other volunteers. Blood donors were also presented with certificates in recognition of their contribution.

Justice Ananda Sen Highlights Thalassemia Support
At the conclusion of the programme, Justice Ananda Sen presented the vote of thanks and highlighted the importance of regular blood donation for thalassemia patients.
He said the organisation makes a significant contribution every year by donating blood units to Sadar Hospital, Ranchi, and the Blood Bank, Ranchi.
He noted that such contributions are crucial in ensuring the availability of life-saving blood for patients and play an important role in improving the lives of people suffering from thalassemia.
Justice Ananda Sen expressed gratitude to the Jharkhand Police, advocates, Jharkhand High Court officers and employees, Sadar Hospital doctors, voluntary blood donor organisations and the Jharkhand Thalassemia Foundation, besides the volunteers who participated in the initiative.

The blood donation camp was jointly organised by Sadar Hospital, Ranchi; High Court Legal Services Committee; Advocates’ Association, Jharkhand High Court; Ranchi Police; High Court Co-operative Society; Jharkhand Thalassemia Foundation; and Voluntary Blood Donors Association.
Among those present were Ram Sharma, Ajit Kumar, President of the Advocates’ Association, Jharkhand High Court; Naveen Kumar, General Secretary of the Advocates’ Association; Manoj Kaushik, Additional DIG (CID), Jharkhand; Rakesh Ranjan, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ranchi; and officials and representatives of the participating organisations.
