Dhanbad, Jan 2: Indefinite blockade of Inter-state National Highway (NH)-2 by villagers in protest of an accident near the Jharkhand- Bengal Border under Maithon police station, around 40 km from the district headquarters was lifted after 8 hours today at around 4 km.
The villagers of Kalimati began a blockade of NH-2 at 8 am with a body demanding compensation for Sanatan Tudu, who was killed in a road accident on Monday at 9 pm near a petrol pump under Maithon police station.
Villagers finally lifted the blockade after compensation of Rs 7 lakh, and jobs for dependents of the deceased were announced.

Following the intervention of Nirsa MLA Aparna Sengupta, former MLA Arup Chatterjee, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) senior leader Ashok Mandal, block development officer (BDO) Vinod Kumar Karmkar, Maithon police station officer-in-charge DK Yadav, Skylark Company engaged in road construction agreed to pay Rs 5 lakh and a job to dependent of the deceased.
Gyarah Kund Block Development office also announced that it would pay Rs 2 lakh. On these assurances, agitating villagers at around 4 pm lifted the gherao.
Sanatan Tudu was returning to the village when his bike collided with a water tanker from a road construction company.
