“Who will win the 2024 elections?” asked a fellow high school student in my classroom. This initiated a quick discussion, with a few of them citing the news headlines while others made conjectures based on their present knowledge and understanding of the political situation.
This, however, was just one half of the class engaging in a debate; the other half chose to keep silent. When prompted, the other half cited a lack of knowledge in this domain or believed any political discussion was futile, stating their inability to vote and drive change.
Political knowledge
This conversation sparked a vital question on whether or not students should have political knowledge and present their views.

In my opinion, students need to know the present state of our country’s political situation. This would help the students to have a more experienced view of the parties they choose to elect shortly. In a way, this would also help them observe the patterns and activities of a party for a more extended period, which would result in a more informed decision. Furthermore, this enables them to express their desires and qualities they hope to see in a future leader.
Knowledge gainers
Apart from the advantages to the knowledge gainers, this would also profoundly impact the current and upcoming political parties. Upon seeing a surge in informed voters, parties must continually evolve, innovate solutions, and improve strategies to garner the required support. This would ultimately drive positive changes one wishes to bring about for the country and its citizens.
However, one must be mindful that present knowledge and understanding of a scenario should be considered a primary step in understanding the government. One must continually accept changes (in personal perception or the working of a party at large), have an updated understanding of the situation and be aware of any developments based on a preconceived notion.
Government functioning
Therefore, one must keep a sound awareness concerning politics and the functioning of the government, irrespective of age, to fulfil aspirations and bring development to the country.
