Daltonganj, January 11: BJP MP Vishnu Dayal Ram has hailed the Jharkhand government’s decision to sanction Rs 456.6261 crore for the underground pipeline irrigation scheme, saying it is a significant stride in the proofing of Palamu.

Palamu farmers

Ram, addressing a press conference,  said the irrigation scheme would tide over the perennial problem of irrigational issues of the farmers of Palamu, which comes under rain shadow and is prone to drought.

Palamu receives little over 1100 mm of rainfall depending on the monsoon; nevertheless, it remains dry and dry. Its reservoirs go empty of water. The underground pipeline scheme will replenish the 14 well-established water reservoirs, said the BJP MP.

The underground pipeline scheme is to be completed and functional by 2025.

The sanctioning of the irrigation scheme is a kind of political shot in the arm of the MP Vishnu Dayal Ram, who, if given a ticket by the BJP, will contest his third Lok Sabha election in 2024.

Rajhara colliery

The non-starting of the Rajhara colliery stares at his political promise made by him in 2019. It’s a vexed issue with him.

Japla cement factory

Japla cement factory is now an extinct history. MP Vishnu Dayal Ram, in his press conference, said the Japla cement factory is now just a talk of the past.

Barwadeeh-Chirmiri railway line

The BJP did try to float the Barwadeeh Chirmiri railway line sanctioned by the railway ministry. Still, it failed to impress the electorates, as people have heard it over the last 40 years, and this particular railway line only matters a little.

The MP made a belated demand for a fertiliser plant here, but it’s a late entry for making Palamu visible on the industrial map.

The underground pipeline scheme will fill water reservoirs to last in crucial months when reservoirs reach dead levels and irrigating lands becomes problematic.

Three rivers, North Koyel, Ouranga and Sone, will give water to the line.

However, barring Sone River, the two other rivers, the North Koyel and Ouranga, are rain-fed rivers, and they go dry or trickle in acute summer, so then how these two rivers will be capable of providing pipeline water in acute summer when there is SoS for water drinking and irrigational one both.

The MP, however, said, “This Irrigation scheme will be functional for four months a year beginning July till October 25 every year.”

He agreed that water retention in these four months, July to October 25 every year, will serve two purposes: easing the drinking water crisis and bringing water to the agricultural fields.
