Daltonganj, January 11: The chronic shortage of teachers in the constituent colleges in the state universities in Jharkhand has most adversely affected the quality of higher education, pushing research and innovation beyond the horizon.

Appreciating the concern of Higher Education Secretary Rahul Kumar Purwar, who is batting for need-based teachers in subjects starved of teachers, the acting VC said, “Our secretary has rightfully diagnosed the ills plaguing the colleges. Secretary has his thrust on need-based teachers.”

There is a model degree college for women in Latehar. Can we hope to have teachers from places like Lohardaga, Palamu, or Garhwa? Locals will be handy, opined Dr Shandilya.

Every university has a list of its retired teachers to whom it gives monthly pensions.

Such teachers who keep fit and desire to start the second innings by teaching in the colleges or university departments close to their place of dwelling will be hired @ 900 rupees per class, which will immediately find teachers in classrooms.
