New Delhi, Jan 11: Actor Pankaj Tripathi, formerly named and appointed as the ‘National Icon’ of the Election Commission of India, has opted to step down from his position voluntarily.

“Acknowledging his role as a political leader in an upcoming film, actor @PankajTripathi has voluntarily stepped down as #ECI National Icon as per terms of MoU. #ECI expresses gratitude for his impactful contribution to voter awareness & #SVEEP since Oct 2022,” a statement released by ECI Spokesperson on X on the ECI’s social media handle said.

Acknowledging his role as a political leader in an upcoming film, actor @PankajTripathi has voluntarily stepped down as #ECI National Icon as per terms of MoU.

In October 2022, Pankaj Tripathi was appointed as the ECI National Icon.

He is currently busy promoting his upcoming biopic movie ‘Main Atal Hoon’ which is based on the life of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Tripathi is portraying the character of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the biopic.

Directed by Ravi Jadhav, the movie ‘Main Atal Hoon’ is scheduled for release on January 19.
