Purulia, Jan 13: 12 individuals were apprehended following an incident where three sadhus from Uttar Pradesh were assaulted by a mob on Thursday while on their way to the Gangasagar Mela in West Bengal. Based on suspicions that the sadhus were kidnappers, the incident took place in the Purulia district of Bengal.

A man and his two sons, who were sadhus, had employed a vehicle to travel to attend the Makar Sankranti festival at Gangasagar.

Language problem

Asking for directions, the sadhus raised suspicions among some locals, resulting in an angry crowd accusing them of kidnapping and subsequently assaulting the sadhus.

The sadhus’ inquiry about the route aroused suspicion among locals, triggering an agitated crowd that accused the sadhus of kidnapping and subsequently subjected them to assault.

Purulia Police said, “there was a misunderstanding between the sadhus and three local minor girls over language problem.” According to reports, the girls screamed and fled, leading locals to capture and physically assault the sadhus.
