Mumbai, Jan 23: Three Western Railways employees were killed on the spot at Vasai in the Palghar district of Maharashtra when a local train ran over them.
According to police officials, the event occurred on Monday while the workers were resolving a signalling problem.
Chief signalling inspector Vasu Mitra (Bhayandar), electrical signalling maintainer Somnath Uttam Lambutre (Vasai Road), and helper Sachin Wankhade have been identified as the deceased.

All the staff members were employed in the signalling division of the Mumbai division of Western Railways.

At 8:55 p.m., the accident happened as the local train was approaching Churchgate station. The three were repairing a signal point between the stations of Vasai Road and Naigaon that had malfunctioned on Monday evening.
An investigation of this incident has been ordered.
According to officials, the families of the three deceased have each received compensation of Rs 55,000 from Western Railways.
“Further, Ex gratia payment and other payments will be disbursed to the deceased’s family members within 15 days. The family of Sachin Wankhede and Somnath will receive approximately Rs 40 lakhs while the family of Vasu Mitra will receive around Rs 1.24 cr,” they said.
