Dhanbad, January 24: Teachers in Jharkhand universities are on the boil over the amended uniformed leave calendar announced by Raj Bhawan for 2024.
In the modified uniformed calendar (for all state universities) announced by Raj Bhawan (Chancellor’s office), teachers’ leave has been curtailed compared to the previous year.
FUTAJ demand
The Federation of University Teachers Association of Jharkhand (FUTAJ), the frontal body of all state university teachers, has demanded immediate amendment in the calendar. FUTAJ general secretary Dr Raj Kumar ( Ranchi) said that the state body has already protested against it.
“Raj Bhawan informed that it has no role in it as a committee of vice-chancellors has prepared and finalised the calendar. Now we will discuss how to make it rational,” said the FUTAJ general secretary. He added that the teachers’ body was preparing to work for campus improvement, but such a leave curtailment would not allow the cooperative step.
SKMU Dumka
Sido Kanhu Murmu University (SKMU) Dumka general secretary Dr Santosh Sil said that this uniformed leave calendar can’t be accepted at any cost. “Teachers of SKMU have already launched a protest over curtailing holidays during Sohrai Parv. Earn Leave and others have been reduced. It must be remembered that leave is not given to teachers for rest, albeit they get it to prepare for personal academic activities, attend seminars and other activities. In the present leave calendar, all personal academic activities will be badly affected,” said Dr Sil.

Teachers, staff and students of SKMU Dumka had on January 9 locked the university gate in protest against curtailing Sohrai Parv’s leave. The Raj Bhawan was forced to announce four days’ holidays to restore the campus environment.
Kolhan University
A Kolhan University Chaibasa Teachers Association (KUTA) delegation will meet the vice-chancellor and demand rolling back the calendar. “We will protest curtailment in leave at all levels so that academic development of teachers does not be hampered,” said Dr Indal Paswan, general secretary of KUTA, Chaibasa.
BBMKU Dhanbad
Newly elected general secretary of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad, Dr Amulya Suman Beck, said the teachers are shocked by this calendar of curtailed leave and demands for restoration of previous numbers of leave granted to teachers.
“I will discuss with the president and other elected office bearers of the association today to chalk out a course of protest for amendment in leave curtailed,” said Dr Beck, general secretary of BBMKUTA.
